The actual (without nitrate in the incubation buffer) and potential (with nitrate) nitrate reductase activity (NRA) was measured in leaves of eleven cerrado woody plants through in vivo essay. The actual NRA was lower than the potential activity for all the species, except for Erythoxylim suberosum what indicates that NRA in these species can be substrate limited under field conditions. The potential activity was substantially higher for Dalbergia miscolobium and Pterodon pubescens. The results indicate that the nitrate reduction can be an important aspect of nitrogen nutrition in cerrado woody plants, although low soil pH. |
